Our Story

In 2019, we embarked on a plan to take our solidarity-driven aspirations into high-stakes communities in rural South Africa. We refused to consider the notions that these communities are 'under-resourced'. We favoured, and still favours the idea of an asset-based community upliftment attitude.

Through partnerships with Swedish NGOs, various European entities (within corporate and within education), South African community-based organizations, and like-minded individuals, we prioritize projects in support of special-education needs, problem-based learning in schools, and vocational training in agriculture.

Cross-Border Partnerships

Learning Academy Worldwide actively builds alliances and participates in international events to exchange ideas on future agricultural trends. The organization has had a recurring presence at GreenTech Amsterdam, a leading horticulture technology exhibition. At GreenTech, director Theophilus van Rensburg Lindzter has moderated panels on critical topics, including "CO2 sources of the future" in 2025 and "Every Drop Counts – Water as a Controllable Asset" in 2026. LAWW also represented its initiatives at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, conducting live Zoom sessions with students in George, South Africa.

We deeply value cross-border educational exchanges. In September 2023, LAWW hosted teachers and students from Dillegård Naturbruksgymnasium in Sweden. The Swedish group participated in workshops at Nelson Mandela University and engaged in practical crop planting in Haarlem with local students. We also maintain strategic partnerships with companies and entities in Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Italy.

Project Overview

Learning Academy Worldwide served as the South African partner and beneficiary in the Seed4Africa ("Smart Entrepreneurial Education & Training for Digital Farming in Africa") project. Co-funded by the EU’s Erasmus+ program, this project aimed to raise the professional profile of vocational (VET) teachers and trainers in agriculture across Africa through online, face-to-face, and work-based learning. Teachers from Haarlem, George and Concordia have over the 3-year project time window traveled to Spain, Belgium, Italy and Sweden for job-shadowing in the vocational training sector.

Hackathon Results

Consortium & Scope: The project rran from January 2023 to December 2025. The consortium was coordinated by Umbraflor in Italy and included partners from Italy, Spain, Belgium, Benin, Kenya, and Nigeria. To build support in South Africa, LAWW recruited associate partners, including Nelson Mandela University (George Campus) and Bluedelite Nursery.

National Hackathon: As part of the initiative, LAWW hosted a national hackathon in Victoria Bay, George, in March 2025. Competing teams spent a full academic term preparing by studying digital storytelling, illustrative design, and web design. The winning team, "Concordia Care" from the Northern Cape, successfully developed a project that tackles food security in dry climates using traditional, equipment-light farming methods.

International Representation: The Concordia Care team's victory earned them a place at the international Social Hackathon Umbria, held in Spello, Italy, in July 2025. There, they represented South Africa among over 400 global participants, collaborating to design digital solutions focused on biodiversity.
